Greetings from the Pacific Coast!

Hello everyone! If you dream of eternal sunshine, ocean views and an overall relaxed lifestyle, San Diego is the place for you. During the past week, I was reminded how landscapes and mentalities strongly differ depending on where you're traveling in the USA. In San Diego, people are more laid back, casual and less pretentious. There's a hippie, surfer, earthy vibe emanating from a lot of residents. Life there appeared more organic and suited to my personality type. It's a pity that I don't crave so much sun and warmth, otherwise I would seriously consider moving there. The downside is that the cost of living is very high, and California is one of the most heavily taxed and regulated States in America.

Have you ever noticed the State flag? It still has "California Republic" emblazoned on it, honoring the point in history when California wished to be a stand alone republic...

california.state.flag

I would say that both California and Texas, two of our largest States, are unique from all others in special ways. I'll show you more photos and share deeper impressions when I write a full story about the neighborhoods of San Diego, but I just wanted to say hello and post a few iPhone pics from my drive along the Pacific Coast. Perhaps some of my readers have traveled extensively through both the East and West Coast of the USA, and can share personal impressions of how they differ.

I hope everyone had a nice holiday and enjoyed the Victory Day celebrations. I've been completely disconnected from the world, LJ and Russian news for the past ten days. Anything interesting happening in life, or your country? I miss my readers when we don't communicate for a long time. :)

Re: Greetings from Florida!
Florida is also sunny, but not as beautiful. :) Next year, my work conference will be in Orlando. I don't know anything interesting there, except theme parks and Disney World. I've already been to those, and have no desire to return. Esp. not to Disney, which I consider an evil empire. :))

My son flies to California several times a year...on business and pleasure... He loves California... several times he considered moving there, as several of his friends have done... they are a few years younger than you are and very mobile...

In Russia, where the rest of our families live - they've just celebrated 70 years of ending the War... with the usual official pomp and lies.. while conducting another war...

I prefer Northern California, places like San Francisco and Fresno. You still get beautiful nature and coastal views but much cooler temperatures. I've just read some reports about the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow. Massive and elaborate parade!! I often wonder if all the cute kids standing on the sidelines in military outfits and hats actually understand what they're celebrating? We had a big flyover of vintage military planes in Washington, DC on Victory Day, so it's also celebrated in most large cities in the USA (though not an official holiday).

I've never heard of this book but I just read about it on Wikipedia. Sounds intetesting! I saw so many massive sailing vessels on the Bay and wondered if I could survive on a long sea journey...

Thanks! This is the best compliment, to be called pretty when you have absolutely no make-up on and tangly, wind blown hair. :) I also like the third photo, esp. the bird who flew right into the frame. It's one of my favorites from the trip, even though I took it with my iPhone. Sometimes I wonder why I'm carrying my big, heavy and expensive camera everywhere when you can now take decent pics from a handheld device. Is everyone back at work now? I think the Russian May holidays are over. So many days off!

I don't get to go on many business trips, but this one was so nice and relaxing! Dallas is an ugly city! I strongly dislike it. I hope you get to visit a different part of America if you get lucky and your company sends you to the States for a business trip. Tell them to send you to the East or West Coast, not middle America. :) This is the most boring part of the USA.

Photos will only be from the San Diego area, but I think it's one of the best cities in California. I only had two days to explore, and the rest of the time I was attending a work conference. Wish I would have had more free time because there are unusual sites and people only a short drive away. I really wanted to go to Slab City, but will save it for another time. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slab_City. Many colorful people and personalities there, but a bit dangerous.

Жизнь прекрасна
I like surfers. They pay a lot of attention and care to their hair and tattoos. These people are rubbing nipples about the cold surface of the board, but in their hearts the sublime dream of women lives. Real cockshiners !:)

Re: Жизнь прекрасна
In San Diego, there is sadly no eroticism with surfing. The water is too cold, and almost all surfers wear thick wet suits, thus eliminating the sexual joy of friction with the board. :)) But, yes, surfers are yummy! They have that disheveled, care-free, adventurous look and mentality that I find sexy in a man. They're usually smiling and happy people.

I don't understand how a relaxed lifestyle matches with the cost of living :)
If you need to pay more you need to work harder?

NIce flag!
They have a red star, a bear which closely matches the United Russia emblem (er. ru), a single stripe underneath that reminds me flags of 15 Soviet republics.

www. from-ussr. com/article_info.php/articles_id/5

The only thing they'd need to add is the word "people's".
So it will be California People's Republic (CPR). In some future.

Что-то вроде статуи Петра I в СПб, но с огромным стояком
It makes no sense to look to the past, the Soviet Union is dead. Think about the future. Did you pay attention how beautiful a US passport is? This is a sample of the magnificent imperial style, while the russian passport is completely expressionless. We must not lag behind. I think the relief image of our Fearless Leader with a naked torso should decorate our passports.

I've been to both Disney Land and Disney World. I think it's horrible how the parks are so expensive for families. They can certainly afford to charge much less. Plus, once you enter the park, all of the souvenirs are extremely costly, yet all children want them and become excited at the sight of these objects. So, I mostly dislike Disney because I think it rips people off, when it doesn't need to. However, all kids are happy there, and amazed and overwhelmed with joy when they meet all of the Disney characters walking around in the park. I took my nephew to Disney Land when he was only two years old, and he was so excited and cute. Here's a photo of him in his mouse ears :))
