Video of Hometown

It finally happened! Someone posted a video of my hometown on YouTube this week. :) The quality isn't great but maybe you'll enjoy it. Or at least like the REAL country music playing in the background. I don't know the name of the singer. Many fun memories flashing on the video, including the roller skating rink, bowling alley and water park I frequently visited as a child. And you will see a shot of "Emmanuel Baptist Church." This is the school I went to from 5th - 12th grade. The one that made me agnostic. The nice shots of the fields at the end are from the Manassas Battlefield. I'll have to do a post on it sometime.

And if you haven't done so, check out my post "Home is Where the Heart Is" where I write about my hometown.

One reader was kind enough to take the time to drive around and make a video of his hometown for me. Really interesting to see!

I wish everyone a pleasant weekend.

Lovely little town! Just dream place to live for me. Much more spacious as the similar size towns in UK, wider roads, not so many cars parked along all the roads. And your house isn't so small for UK standard: we couldn't even put a diner table into our kitchen Many here have no diner tables and have to eat on their laps. I admired your beautiful family and wish all of them the very best. My husband would be so happy to have the garage your Dad has - he loves his tools as well and can fix everything, too

Thanks for the nice words. In America, we're spoiled with lots of space. Huge roads, homes and even most apartments are quite large compared to European standards. I've been to the UK several times and love the smaller towns, especially Bath.

I did :) - http://peacetraveler22.livejournal.com/20517.html. The first part is about my childhood home and family, but the last part is about the town. I'll try to write about other places in Manassas in the future. I lived there most of my life.

I'm happy to have seen the video of your town as well. Of course, there are many entertaining YouTube videos from Russia, but more are of scary drivers or drunk gopniks. :) Yours was more pleasant.

NIce.
When in America I always tuned my car radio to a country music station and my TV to CMT.
Love it.

Off:

Somebody in the past discussions said that he does not want Russia to be like Iran.
But what do we know about the REAL Iran?

Cute little town :)) and a historical place as far as I understood.
I wonder what people do for a living? I mean is there «real» local buseness, or some of them can get job not far from city?

It's quite historical in the Civil War context. A lot of people commute to DC for work, but it's a real hellish drive. About two hours in rush hour traffic each way. I used to drive it everyday, but then moved to Arlington, Virginia to be closer to the city. On weekends when there's no traffic, it's only about 1/2 hour ride to DC.
