Let's discuss Russian "spirituality"...

P20-Cover_ANDY-copy-2-800x500

There are some words which have purely subjective meanings in my view, and "spirituality" is one of them. For me, this word has nothing to do with God or religion. As an agnostic, I'm not attached to any church or religious rituals, yet I still consider myself a spiritual person. This seems to be a key word in Russian media and culture, as discussions about "spirituality" are constantly thrown around on LJ and in comments, usually to insult the non-spiritual and decadent West. I saw it just this week when the pro-Kremlin blogger "politichanka" grew outraged at Varlamov's recent posts about bad Sevastopol, particularly his focus on all the trash in the city. The reason for all this shit on the ground? She claims that "Ukraine in 23 years failed to instill spiritual values in the youth. Therefore, young people behave like pigs and there is garbage everywhere." Of course, this is an absurd statement but I grew curious and decided to ask her what her definition of "spirituality" is. Her answer? "Actually I don't know."

I never use words I don't know or understand, especially when I'm insulting people. For me, spirituality is an aura, the energy and emotion that you evoke when encountering complete strangers, your charitable contributions to the overall good of humanity, a connection to something bigger than yourself, and an overall sense of openness and positivity toward the world and its inhabitants....and how about you? How does Russian culture define "spirituality," and why is the term so commonly used there? Help me understand. :)

Re: Думаете?:)
There is no other viable candidate. As usual, we will be forced to vote for the lesser of two evils. The Republicans cannot find a moderate candidate who resonates with ALL of America, not just the evangelical States. I like Marco Rubio the best out of all of the Republicans, but I doubt he will win the GOP nomination.

Re: Думаете?:)
In almost all cultures, there is a double standard when it comes to sexual promiscuity. For men, it is expected and tolerated at a much higher level. When women are engaged in similar actions, they are stamped with the "whore" label. So, it would be interesting to see the American public's response if Hilary was suddenly caught sucking an interns dick.

The slang word is "eating out." I love eating her out....lots of other slang words, but this is the most popular I think. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=eating+out

Re: Думаете?:)
Ok, ty
Now a serious question. USA had George Bush and his father and now Jebb Bush tries to be elected
USA had Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton will be the first lady president, that's for sure
Is it a 100% democracy when same families rules America? In russia it was called "monarchy".
I'm sure that if Putin's nephew becomes a minister or a president western politicians will be anxious as well as russian liberals

Re: Думаете?:)
Jeb Bush has no shot of being elected. He is poisoned by his brother's actions and last name. But I was just having this discussion with my father last night and he said the only reason he will not vote for him is because he doesn't like the idea of a political dynasty in one family. He believes this is a dangerous precedent for the country, and I somewhat agree. But we have limited Presidential terms here (the maximum years any one person can serve is 8), and I still believe our elections are mostly fair. So, the American people will ultimately decide if this is acceptable in the long term.

Re: Думаете?:)
Yeah I don't think America will tolerate the third Bush president.
But, i read John Kerry bio, he tried to be a president twice. Both timed he sucked but later he reached a certain level of power. So, Bush family will strike back
