American Sexism - 1950's style

I hate sexism more than anything, and sadly I see it quite often here on LJ. Social media platforms are rarely a reflection of reality, and I hope some of the nasty comments and messages I get from male Russian readers aren't representative of the common attitude toward women in the country. The general discussion is something like this - why don't you dress better or show photos of yourself in heels and make-up? Why don't you have children? Show your boobs!...if you don't do these things, you're called the nasty "F" word - a feminist!! Recently, I came across an article about American advertisements in the 1950's. It's amazing how far we've come, but I wonder if relationships were somehow purer and better then? Personally, I can't imagine playing the female role depicted in these ads. Some women find romance in being a man's slave? Show me examples of some sexist ads in Russia. Do they exist? Let's take a look at a few more ads from the 1950's, where females are portrayed mostly in subservient and demeaning ways.Collapse )
