дача - American Style!

camper8

I love adventure, discovery and surprises! But there's some comfort in the familiar. In returning to people and places that evoke warm feelings and memories. Since childhood my family has spent many summer weekends at a place called "The Wilderness." For generations, we've packed our weekend summer bags, hopped in the car and taken the hour drive to Fredricksburg, Virginia where we have a recreational vehicle (RV) parked at a modest resort in the woods.Read more...Collapse )

Hi! Camper is very cozy and quite compunctionate)) And what good photo!
For many years I spent as a child on the Russian dacha, where always something digging, planting and growing. More like a sport than to rest, constant physical work.

Hello! Thank you for your note. Here, we mostly relax but we do plant flowers at the beginning of each season. :)

Thanks, it's nice! Looks so different in summer but still not many tourists.

In summer, Peterhof is patched with tourists despite they charge entry fees.
In summer there are hydrofoils between St. Petersburg and Peterhof leave every 20 minutes on the average. It takes only half an hour to get to the Hermitage, and they are highly popular, too.

Yes, although not in my Soviet age school, I did read American literature quite a lot and highly appreciate it! I am very glad to notice you just mentioned the author of "Walden or, Life in the Woods" I find one of the most impressing, thought-provoking book I've ever read.

This is also one of my favorite books! If you like Thoreau, I also highly suggest Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Very interesting post, thank you very much! It was quite amusing to "look" into an RV. :)))
The salt and pepper shakers are very touching!
Btw how old is the bridge which photos you showed? It looks like it was rather new 25 years ago...
Your autumn in so colorful! Our Russian autumn is more bleakly...
> You can also rent a vacant lot and tent camp. We did that in our younger years, but now most of the family prefers the comfort of the RV.
Your RVs have air conditioners, haven't they?
I didn't used to like an out-of-town leisure when I was a child (I preferred to spend my free time in the city), but now I really enjoy visiting my parents' dacha. :)))

I think the bridge is about 50 years old. Yes, the RV has an air-conditioner. In America, we are very accustomed to having air-conditioners everywhere. :)

My parents loved to take photos of my sister and me as kids. So, our childhoods are well documented through old pictures. :)
