Russian post vs USA post

I met Shannon peacetraveler22in lj-Russian top. And when she wrote about books it was "love at first sight" :)
She told me about travel-book and shipping-price was to high (amazon).
Shannon offered to send me as a gift, I deny her very kind offering. I suggested exchange.
And Shannon invented experiment - to send both shipments in one day. To Moscow and to Virginia.
Experiment has started today.
Amaze me, Russian post! :)

First step - my husband lost one hour on the central post.

post

To be continued :))
Thank you, Shannon, for this funny international game.

This is what I hear from locals. I think the package from America will definitely arrive first, but it will be interesting to see how much longer it takes Russian post to deliver my package.

A friend of ours has recently received a postal delivery sent 6 months ago. It could not be tracked anywhere for months, and he thought it had been lost forever. This one should come quicker though. Russian post was in the middle of scandal recently regarding late deliveries, they ought to have done something. Two months delivery can be a reasonable bid.

Six months! I've mailed several packages to Moscow. One time, I paid for five day expedited shipping and it still took almost three weeks. :( The other mailings took about a month to arrive.

BTW look at the first building on the right side of the street.
We do not have China Town in Moscow but we have this building:

ru. wikipedia. org/wiki/%D0%A7%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BD%D1%8B%D0%B9_%D0%B4%D0%BE%D0%BC_%D0%BD%D0%B0_%D0%9C%D1%8F%D1%81%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%86%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%B9

It is a historical tea shop.

The link doesn't work? All I remember about tea in Russia is that I paid a crazy amount for it in a St. Petersburg cafe. It was about 15 USD for tea and a small slice of cake. I wasn't paying attention to the cafe prices when I entered and it was in fact an upscale hookah bar. But I only wanted tea. Or maybe they just ripped me off.

And you still doubt ? Before I started use Kindle , I had ordered books from Russia (Moscow) ozon.ru and US http://www.abebooks.com/ same time . From US it took 2-2.5 weeks , from Russia 2 months !!!! Even I order from some hole in China it's take about 1.5 month. Flight from Moscow to Tel Aviv take about 4 h.

I bought a Kindle but have only used it once. I think I'll put it on eBay for sale.

I visit this central post office very often and l hate this place already. It's so crowded, and service is very slow.

We have a lot of postal cuts in the U.S. recently so things are not as fast or efficient as in the past. Sometimes we have long lines, but you never have to stand in line an hour!

We shipped books to each other. I sent her a travel book and she sent me an old Soviet children's book.

вот зачем вы дополнительно загружаете нашу почту )
вообще с этими заказами по интернету из-за рубежа нужна уже альтернатива почте, типа федекса американского. такая чёткая быстрая система доставки.

FedEx to Russia is too expensive! Almost $50USD to ship a simple book. Plus, this is a fun game. :)

I think I can predice the result. Shannon will get her book in about 4 weeks, and the Russian person will get it in about 8 weeks. What matters is which post will be delivering it. They both are pretty good about getting it across the border. The U.S. will drop it off in Russia in about a week and vice versa. Then the Russian post will take about 8 weeks to get it to its destination.

My wife recently received mail from US.
They asked to send them passport by May, 2 :) It was something like June, 15. Notice date is March, 18, so this letter traveled only about 3 months :)

Re: My wife recently received mail from US.
Three months! What about within Russia? It must be faster. Otherwise, how do people mail/pay bills?
