Open Vote for Next Journey!

Some type of intense restlessness has recently set in. I don't know the root of the problem. Probably because I haven't traveled abroad since my trip to Russia, five months ago. This is too long for me. Summer is difficult for travel because of huge tourist crowds, my intolerance for heat, and packed flights which make standby travel very risky. This was apparent a few weeks ago when I flew to Vermont for a short getaway and got stuck on the return because flights were full. I finally made it home to DC on the last flight of the day, which departed around 10 p.m.

I originally thought about going to Toronto for a long weekend, but now I'm considering a four or five day trip to Wyoming. I've traveled many times to the Western part of the U.S. but never to the "Wild West." Strong desire to see this region, with its beautiful mountain landscapes, ranches and wide-open roads. In early autumn, I'll travel overseas for a few weeks but the destination points are yet to be determined. So tell me - where should I go at the end of July or beginning of August? Which reports will be more interesting for you - Toronto or Wyoming? Vote below and you can help determine my destination! I'll leave open until Friday.

This poll is closed.

Shannon, please travel to...

Toronto, Canada
26(44.8%)
Wyoming, U.S.
32(55.2%)

You haven't traveled in Wyoming or Montana yet, correct? It's an expensive area in the summer but Toronto isn't so cheap either. I doubt I'll have time to go to Yellowstone or the desire to fight the massive crowds there but there's plenty of other things to do/see.

But I really want to see Niagra Falls! Btw, thanks for the link to the article in the other post. I'll read it tonight.

Wyoming! Make sure you visit Jackson, Grand Tetons and Yellowstone.
After having lived in so many places, it's still the best...

This is where I would go, Jackson Hole. But I'm having a hard time finding lodging. It's the height of tourist season and I'm booking late. Very expensive if I go. Do you know any places to stay? I'd prefer a log cabin.

Yes! In autumn, let's go on a journey in Eastern Europe. :) Belarus and some other country. Poland, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Estonia? I'll come to Moscow and we'll hop in the car. :) Find some sponsor! They can get two bloggers for the price of one and readers are most interested in my perceptions of Russia and former Soviet bloc countries.

This city currently is ahead in the votes! :) I'm surprised because I think a lot of Russian bloggers have written reports on Toronto but few have traveled to Wyoming.

for me Wyoming is more interesting. Do Americans travel more often around The USA or overseas?

America, like Russia, is a huge country! And to some extent it's unique because the landscapes and people vary greatly from State to State. So many Americans prefer to travel only in their home country. According to this recent article, over 1/3 of Americans now have passports. Far more than in Russia.

So many Americans prefer to travel only in their home country (c)

The reason probably is that Europe is far and flights are expensive. I heard this from a few American tourists, who met during traveling

Even flights within the U.S. can be very expensive, especially coast to coast. Sometimes the fares are $600 - $700 to fly from DC to California. But we have excellent roads and infrastructure so if there's time, it's always better and more interesting to travel by car.

Wyoming is more interesting for me, but also more difficult to get to and very expensive lodging. I can't find anything cheap there!
