My friends often fancy themselves comedians. Today one of them sent me a link to a very scary item on SkyMall - dress up squirrel magnets! Immediately induced panic and terror. :) I hate these little creatures, always on the attack in DC. Chasing after crumbs, carrots or crackers. They're like little dogs begging for attention and treats. Many times I've seen them jump on a tourist's lap while sitting on a bench in the city, trying to grab a morsel of food. Aggressive little beasts.

This SkyMall catalog has the strangest items, yet I always reach for it when intense boredom sits in on a flight. I'm sure every country has an equivalent catalog on flights where you can purchase unusual things. This same friend even hinted at my Christmas gift this year - a squirrel blanket! Certain to induce winter nightmares.

Regular readers know how I feel about this animal, which is considered a fairy tale like creature in Russia. What's your phobia? Come on share - we all have them. :)

Squirrels are just rats with fluffy tails. I personally hate hedgehogs, brrrrr.

Yes, they are equally creepy! No rodent like creature is cute, except maybe a beaver with their cool tails.
This shampoo wasn't tested on animals. - xpo_xpo_xpo - Jul. 16th, 2013 11:30 pm (UTC) - Expand

Yes, in Russia they are lovely animals. If they live in city parks, they are timid. Besides cats hunt on them.
Jul. 16th, 2013 06:17 pm (UTC)
Cats will eat them or they just enjoy chasing them? Honestly I don't like cats either. But I notice many Russians really like cats in LJ posts/comments. So many photos of them! I prefer dogs. :)

I will add to the horror and give a link to one of the most expensive beers. The bottle is put into stuffed squirrel: http://www.brewdog.com/blog-article/341.

I personally don't like certain insects of the cocroach family :)

I could never drink this! "The striking packaging was created by a very talented taxidermist and all the animals used were road kill." Tasty! :))

American squirrels are different from european ones. Here people mostly like them. How could you dislike such a creature:

By the way, an interesting story of friendship between man and a squirrel:
Jul. 16th, 2013 06:25 pm (UTC)
Most Americans don't like them. I remember in Russia squirrels were on all types of packaging - candies, alcohol, kids toys. This taxi squirrel!?! Brave woman just holding and petting it. If I ever got into a taxi and a squirrel was sitting there, I'd probably have a heart attack. :)

Snakes. Many many snakes - it's so scared.
Jul. 16th, 2013 06:20 pm (UTC)
I used to chase black snakes in the woods. Remember my post about the American dacha where my family spends summers? I still see them there, and sometimes they crawl near our feet. :) They don't scare me.

I love skymall. I grab it as soon as i sit down on a plane. Its full of such silly things, it always makes me smile... pantophobia. Isnt that the fear of everything? Thats me. Except squirrels. I dont think im afraid of squirrels especialy like you and your sister are. But Ive not met an aggressive squirrel yet. Though basically all rodents disgust me. I mean holy cow, snakes are so much scarier than squirrels no? I really hate mice, rats, cockroaches, snakes, and especially birds. Not big birds of prey or flightless birds but smaller dirty swooping poop on you peck your eyes out birds. I dont like heights but i can usually deal. Horror movies, i cant watch them. Public speaking, unless Ive had a few.. the list goes on.

I love birds. One time a random drunk guy at a bar came up to me and said "If you could be any animal, what would it be?" No hello - nothing. Just this strange question. But the answer was easy! A bird - complete sense of freedom, flight and observation. :) And, yes, these are the type of men I attract. :))

I don't have any fears for animals: I can catch frogs, mice, some snakes (when I know it's not dangerous). Our squirrels in park are not this aggressive, I think they are different species. Native British are red but now thee are on the wedge of survival because somebody brought here grey squirrels from America or Canada.

I don't remember seeing many squirrels in UK parks. But it's a lovely place. I hope to visit Northern Ireland in the fall. I've already traveled to England, Scotland and Wales.

Once my dog stole a sandwich...
Just from the mouth of one child, reaching from the behind just as he tried to bite his sandwich. He was so happy that dog ate his sandwich! Wow! Dog likes his sandwich! Wow! He was really happy. I think he would be no less happy had his food been stolen by squirrel :)

Re: Once my dog stole a sandwich...
Most kids are really fascinated with animals, including my young nephew. The simple joys of childhood, somehow lost in adulthood for most people.

I hate pigeons, poison snakes, wild rats and mouses. But i like rodents sitting in cage , and even one very funny hamster live with us :-)
Jul. 17th, 2013 01:55 pm (UTC)
Hamster is a very popular pet for kids in the U.S. :)
Jul. 17th, 2013 05:58 am (UTC)
I like cats. :)
I think, they are beautiful, but you don't like them.
Jul. 17th, 2013 11:02 am (UTC)
One who really loves cats must love dogs :)
Konrad Lorenz said this. If you don't have cynophobia, you have no excuse if you don't like dogs :) And if you like dogs, you've just found something you can like together with this journal mistress :)

I am fond of squirrels (and rats, and hamsters! :))) But I can't understand people's love towards dinosaurs... Not all of them were pretty little animals, among them there were brutal predators! (It is enough to remember Michael Crichton's "Jurassic Park"...) So I would be horrified if I received as a gift a magnet or a blanket with dinosaurs...
Jul. 17th, 2013 01:56 pm (UTC)
Dinosaur phobia? This is very unique and interesting. :)
Jul. 19th, 2013 04:24 pm (UTC)
To be honest I have a lot of phobias. Here they are: snakes, spiders, mouses, rats, wasps. Maybe something else :)
Jul. 19th, 2013 04:31 pm (UTC)
These are common phobias, shared by many readers. :)
