Mystery Illness

photo (17)

For the first time in my life, I've picked up some strange illness overseas. During my travels in Palestine, I visited a lot of small villages and was in constant contact with children, including the ones here from Shuafat Refugee Camp. I frequently hugged, kissed and picked them up. When I returned home last week, strange red bumps started appearing on my breasts and then quickly spread to cover my entire stomach, arms and now moving downward on my legs. The bumps have the appearance of measles or chicken pox. I've already had the former, and been vaccinated against the latter. My doctor can't provide any thorough diagnosis until she receives the results of my blood work (hopefully tonight!). Are any of my readers doctors? Here's an iPhone pic of some of the bumps:

bumps photo (11)

Have you ever picked up a rash, infection, or become sick during or after overseas travels? My medical mystery continues...

The bumps I have look similar to shingles (like in this photo). But shingles is usually only in one area, not spread all over. Once you have chicken pox, the virus doesn't die but lies dormant. It's common for it to resurface again later in life, and the resurgence is called "shingles." Blood work results will let us know if that is the culprit.

Hmm...rubella. I don't know this disease, but just looked it up and the bumps look similar. I try to avoid researching medical issues on the Internet, because after reading so much information I believe I have every disease!!

I don't think it's serious because I have not been vomiting and don't have a fever. I just want to know what it is already, so we can treat it and heal the rash before it leaves scars.

Maybe it was a mistake to ask readers. Now I learn about all these new diseases and worry I have them. :) In what country did you catch the rash?

Thanks, Olga. Btw, happy holiday to you! I've just read your post. It's nice to remember traditions from your home country. And who doesn't like wine? Wish I had one now at my desk. :)

Probably nothing to worry about. Get well!

Yeah, but LiveJournal readers like to express opinions and give advice, that's why I posted it. My bumps only started itching this afternoon! Are you on your fishing trip now?

Do you have any other symtoms?
Hope you'll get well soon. And the rush doesn't look like varicella (chickenpox) or rubella or measeles. Assually it might not be a virus at all. Wait for your blood test. Hopefully it will show what is that.

The doctor popped one of the sores, and swabbed the fluid. It's so gross, but this will tell whether it's a bacterial or viral infection.

The disease is the same name in English - rubella. I had all normal child vaccinations, so I believe so.

I received something similar. Bumps/rash on my arms. This was when I returned from visiting Greece. I had it several day. Then it disappeared. I didn't go to the doctor. I just waited to see if it would go away in a few days or not.

I returned last week, so it's been about 9 days and it keeps spreading. I think it might be shingles. Should get test results tomorrow. I have a strong immune system and rarely get sick, so this is highly unusual for me.

The name of this illness is corruption and theft. Palestine is the largest recipient of foreign aid per capita. And where does all this money go? Obviously not to the kids on the picture.

What is wrong with me, right? You have a personal problem and I'm using it to express my political views for another time. I'm sorry. I hope it is nothing serious and you will be okey ASAP.

You're so passionate about the Palestine topic!! I was surprised how many USAID (U.S. Agency for International Development) billboards I saw on the way to Jericho. I believe the main, winding road there was built by the U.S. I'm not opposed to such contributions and aid, and even thought about working for this government agency. Thanks for wishes to get better. All will be fine once doctors figure out what it is!

настоящие приключения
It seems that not only you are looking for adventures, but they are looking for you. The friend of mine had scabies. Treatment is that you should stay at home and smudge very stinky nasty cream over all body. I think Miro does so even in the absence of the disease!)
It's a bit boring,
But very good for the blogging:)

Re: настоящие приключения
Miro herself is like a nasty infection, spreading self-loathing to women and readers of her blog. This could be scabies, looks like it but still waiting for test results.
